Team Building
Teams need to pause, reflect, look at how they were working together and identify what needs to change to increase their effectiveness, their sense of belonging and their well-being in a world that only gets busier. Often time out for a team is only considered once a team is not performing. However, it is highly beneficial to focus on how to ‘keep working well together’. Our work lives have increasing changes and challenges, hence teams working seamlessly together and creating a positive sense of shared vision, direction, workload, belonging and ‘we’ve got each other’s backs’ is highly valuable.
With many years of working with leadership teams, my approach is firstly to create a safe environment for team members to share past and present information about how the team works. This begins with looking first at what has been happening in the team (both what works and what does not work), having this shared by members of the team with the other members, and, building a common understanding of the ways in which team members will work together in the future. Using a sticky wall to collect this information makes it highly visual as we listen to each other and create change.
