Leadership mentoring is akin to individually tailored training.
Leadership mentoring is...
One on one engagement with leaders and managers, aimed at developing their skills and knowledge whilst directly problem solving and/or reflecting on their ‘issues of the day’.
In the mentoring relationship, we work confidentially with ‘live’ examples to resolve or develop options for the most pressing issues a leader is focussed on; be they performance management, the difficult conversation, managing upwards and downwards, new solutions or strategies or team cohesion, to name a few. Managers can sometimes feel overwhelmed, confused and challenged. Mentoring empowers them, re-establishes a sense of control and gives them confidence to address the issues and step forwards.
Senior people influence others in the organisation, therefore ensuring that they perform at their best creates a positive ripple effect.
How does leadership mentoring work?
From day one, our approach to mentoring is to build a trusting, caring and confidential relationship. The agenda is determined by the key issues being experienced. Our mentoring has a strong problem-solving focus for a future event; or reflection and learning from a past situation. The learnings from mentoring go well beyond the session and provide ongoing growth of the manager’s problem solving and leadership skills. The use of a range of virtual technologies such as Teams, Zoom and FaceTime have greatly increased access to this service.
Outcomes
The benefits of mentoring are the ability to share the issue, confidence, clarity, a way forwards, a solution, learning what is needed right now, renewed energy to manage the issue/s and feeling cared for. In the ever-changing workplace, mentoring serves to constantly upskill leaders.
