Effective sharing in an online session

24/2/2022

Online session with Jill Nichsolson from Advance Your Business
When coming together digitally with leaders in your organisation,  the meeting often becomes very task focussed. With the past couple of years demanding a significant increase in video conferencing as our default meeting platform, it's time that we re-introduce the human element of connection.
Having facilitated effective digital sessions for a variety of clients over the past couple of years, I would to like to share with you my top 4 tips for creating a digital space for effective sharing.

  1. Start the meeting by engaging each member of the group through an activity that is quick, light and easy. This might be 'select one thing from your workspace and tell us about how you use this tool at work' or 'tell us whether you are business at the top, pj's at the bottom, all business or any other combination'.
  2. Allocate time in your agenda for shared reflection.
  3. Include a visual element of the session where people share and reflect on (for example an image that portrays) how they have been feeling about their workspace.
  4. Build in time for people to think about and discuss how they will move forwards.

Consider using an external facilitator where people are going to share their personal experiences of the workspace during these very difficult times.

By creating space for leaders to share their experiences, generally they feel less isolated, heard, and more connected. By acknowledging the human element and their journey, they are also more likely to be able to continue their leadership role in the organisation.
