Whilst we all navigate the ups and downs of Covid as leaders, being flexible is vital. It is important to remember that whilst we are all in this together, we may all be experiencing Covid differently. For those of us who prefer to be planned and organised, Covid creates challenges. For those of us who crave human contact to enthuse and motivate us, lockdowns are particularly isolating.
When working with clients through these times, I have found it beneficial to remind myself that flexibility is like a muscle - it requires skill and practise. I have found it helpful to have plans with options rather than a fixed plan that can be knocked over by one press conference. We need to be compassionate with others and ourselves as part of reducing anxiety and fatigue. Can we find a way to accept what happens and disrupts on any given day and not focus on what we planned to complete? Supporting staff through the many disruptions is genuine and authentic leadership - so let's acknowledge the value of this. Comments are closed.
